Do You Compare Yourself To Other Writers & More From @TerryTyler4 #Writers

Terry Tyler

Inside an authors mind chaos can rule, and the impacts on self-esteem can be devastating. This guest post on BlondeWriteMore gives some fabulous insights by author Terry Tyler no less.

The dear Lucy at BlondeWriteMore has some fabulous posts on all aspects of writing as well as running her own chick lit series featuring “The Diary of Roxy Collins.” I will come to that in another post because this one is to shout out an excellent guest post by one of her favourite authors.

The questions posed to Terry are relevant to anyone who writes.

Questions we all ask ourselves on a daily basis. Often it is good to just know that we are not alone and that the self-esteem hits tumbling in cognitive dissonance are entirely natural.

To give you an idea of the post content here is Terry’s introduction giving a heads up on what to expect.

“When the lovely Lucy asked me to do a guest post for her, she suggested four subjects to write around. These were:

  • Comparing yourself to other writers / authors
  • Keeping going when things get tough / persistence
  • Things your first novel taught you
  • How to decide when it’s time to walk away from a story?

I couldn’t decide which one to choose so I’ve written a little on each one. I love reading other writers’ thoughts on the subject nearest to our hearts, so I hope you enjoy mine, too!”

  1. You’re right, Gary….this post was definitely worth reading….very helpful indeed! I also followed Terry’s thread and commented directly on her blog…thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. I thought of you when I first read it. Similar minds and all that. Did you know her sister is my proof reader too? Small world 🙂

        1. Very true and that is the one thing blogging has impressed me with most, how many generous people are willing to support and engage. It’s very inspiring 🙂

  2. Hi Gary. Thank you for the retweet and follow. I have reciprocated. Terry’s post helped me to keep a grounded perspective on my writing. It is tough at times but worth it. 😊

    1. My pleasure and great to connect too. The Fb group is probably the best one I’ve found for linking up with new people and then sharing posts across all forms of social media!

Agreed on Terry’s post too; its the one reason I pressed it from Lucy’s blog. Really suggest you hook up with her too as she is also a good writer and has a brilliant Thursday diary serialisation of Roxy Collins. 🙂

      1. That sounds great Gary. The group feels very supportive. Unfortunately my internet speed is really slow this week and I cannot reply as quickly or comment on as many posts. This too shall pass. 😊

        1. It is incredibly supportive and if you have questions post them because anyone who knows the answer will get back to you really quickly. It doesn’t matter how silly they seem either.. I know this from my own experience!! 🙂

  3. Clicked on the link and read the whole post! What a great post and validation that we can do this writing lark 😉 its just a matter of keep going 🙂
